Topics of Discussion:
Suzanne McKeever will discuss the following:
* how low muscle tone in the body, face and oral areas affects eating & feeding issues
* how sensory difficulties also have an affect on eating
* most common feeding problems in children with Down syndrome of all ages and
suggestions for addressing these problems.
Patty LaFratta will discuss the following:
*common nutrition challenges that children with Down syndrome often face, specifically constipation, slower than average weight gain and linear growth in infancy/early toddler hood
* basic nutrition guidelines for children with Down syndrome (such as how to meet their needs
for calcium, iron, B vitamins, fiber, protein, and fluid
* ways to increase a child's caloric intake if he/she needs to gain weight
